Story, acting, characters, production, all stellar. Jump scares, intrigue and fantastic atmosphere, and I love the characters.
Malevolent is up there with the best cosmic horror shows easily. It always keeps me on the edge of my seat. Harlan does an excellent job making this show what it is.
Malevolent ticks all the boxes of what I look for in a long-form horror story: great pacing, fascinating characters, a high-stakes mystery to unravel, and editing that could make me actually believe a monster from another dimension is manifesting inside of my room. Add to that a brilliant framing device that embraces the audio medium and the fact that this is somehow, impossibly, a one-man show, and you have a breath of fresh air for fans of audio-horror. Well played, Mr. Guthrie.
Malevolent is one of the best podcasts I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Harlan is a pro at building suspense, emotion, and scares through superb voice acting and professional sound boarding. Malevolent is a fun, and creative story utilizing Lovecraft mythos to deliver chills and scares. While it pulls from Lovecraft, Harlan is a master story teller, and delivers refreshing original content in the cosmic horror genre that will leave you anxiously awaiting more. Malevolent is perfect for those both heavily invested in horror and those just dipping their toes into the scene.
Fantastic! Stumbled upon this spooky adventure and was instantly hooked. Each addition only furthers my enthusiasm. The characters are engaging and interesting, the mysteries deep but not convoluted, the lore is explorable but not overwhelming, sound design is fan-f'ing-tastic. Treat yourself and give this a listen. (And if you really like it check out the patreon options, 100% worth it)

A Nightmarish Tale
This gripping story hits the ground running, pulling you right along our two confused and panicked main characters. The ambience and sfx are leveled nicely and do a brilliant job immersing you into the world of Malevolent. The voice actors themselves do a remarkable job creating an emotional depth to each of the characters through the fear, paranoia, and the faint glimmers of hope that are dangled in front of them. If you love eldritch horror or you are just a fan of audio dramas, then this is a must listen for you. I have been immensely enjoying this one and can't wait to hear how this all pans out! Great job all around!

Fantastic world building
These stories are brilliantly immersive, pretty claustrophobic and create a top fantastic foreboding atmosphere. Actual “oshit” moment for me was him getting a lift in the wrong car. I shall recommend this to everyone. And the sound production, superb
amazing story, i love the character dynamic so much. would love to write more comprehensive review when ive caught up, but really really enjoying it so far. the acting is incredible and the sound mixing is so professional. thank you for sharing this work!

A Unique Narrative About the Cthulhu Mythos
Malevolent follows investigator Arthur Lester and a mysterious entity who shares his body. Particularly his eyes. While Arthur uses his experiences as a detective, he must rely on the entity’s descriptions and guidance to navigate the world and its dark mysteries. The character interactions and narrative paint clear pictures to the listener and the sound editing add a level of quality that especially fuel the horrors of the Cthulhu mythos. I highly recommend it.

I love Malevolent
A chilling, gripping and mesmerising ride. Can this really be the work of one person? Not only can you get sucked into the darkness created by Harlan Guthrie but there is a fascinating discord server with a knowledgeable, interesting and inclusive community. There are Patreon options too, which even allow you influence Arthur's actions.

New Favorite Podcast
Malevolent is a fantastic character-focused horror story. The show uses the audio-only medium very well by incorporating the narration into the dialogue and keeping a sense of mystery. There is a lot of re-listrn value to try to piece the story together as we learn more of what is going on! I even joined the Patreon, and having weekly chapters is wonderful. I highly recommend this show to anyone who likes suspenseful narratives, mysterious eldritch spooks, and brilliant character arcs.

Best Horror Podcast of 2021
Unique storytelling format, experimental narratives, and genuinely scary!

Had me hooked from the first two sentences. Incredible storytelling and characters, perfect blend of mystery, madness, and monsters. 5 million out of 5, please everyone listen to this immediately.

Horror with Heart
This podcast is amazing in terms of horror, mystery, and also friendship between two unlikely people. If you want a podcast with good characterizations, a fleshed out story, and phenomenal voice acting then Malevolent is definitely for you!

absolutely fantastic
The story, sound design, and voice acting are all top notch. Audio dramas may not be your thing, but if they are, you'll love Malevolent.
Good, really good. This isn't a garden variety horror audio drama. The voice acting, pacing, and sound quality are so well done that it needs to be included in the top tier of Lovecraftian media. Never would have thought the phrase I DON'T KNOW ARTHUR would be so impactful.
This Podcast needs to come with a warning label because it's too damned addictive. I binged through their entire back catalog in a day and I NEVER. BINGE. SHIT. The story is told in a unique and fascinating new way and they pull it off with a flair of genius. I wish I could engineer sound half as good as these guys.

The Best Parts of Lovecraftian Horror
Malevolent has superbly crafted a story of violence, monsters and mystery. I love the conceit of a Arthur man with a voice in his head, who has exclusive use of the protagonist’s eyes. As Arthur blindly gropes through this world, so do we. Why is the voice bound to him? Why is everyone out to hurt him? As Arthur and the voice navigate the world trying to figure out the mystery, we learn more about the voice. How reliable is he? Who’s he really looking out for? Who is he? The sound production is visceral and creepy and the acting is on point. A winner for anyone strong of mind and of body.
One of the most unique and immersive shows I have ever heard. Incredible dialogue, immense tension, brilliant story-telling, and a way in which there is a narrator to the listener without separating the listener from their immersion into the story. Truly a brilliant idea that was executed to perfection.

One of the Most Immersive Shows Out There!
Beautifully done and legitimately terrifying! I listen to a LOT of horror pods and this is one of the few that scare me. Bravo!

Fantabulous!
This show is absolutely amazing! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the SFX are so good, I’ve had to do the audio equivalent of a double-take when I’m listening. 10/10 would recommend!

an eldritch delight
the story is interesting and exciting, the characters are engaging and fun, and the sound design is stunning!! I was hooked from the first episode and I'm eager for more!

Here's the deal...
The best review I can give for Malevolent is that I listened to about 10-15 seconds of it and got so scared by the sound design I had to turn it off. 5 Stars.

"What if you couldn't trust your eyes"
We've all wondered if the shape of reality is reflected properly in our eyes, that sometimes we feel that we can't trust what we see. What if we take it one step further? In Malevolent, we're introduced to a brilliant premise, that the narrator has lost control of part of their eyesight (or possibly their mind), to an entity that has been forcefully injected their body. In this, our main character needs to trust the words of an otherworldly being, that we, the audience, have to trust this being is accurately portraying every possible relevant detail. But can we? It's a great ride, I really do recommend. Come see atrocities, committed in the name of freeing a mind from a madness it is sure isn't it's own.

You definitely need to listen.
Lovecraftian horror and two guys just sharing a body and being pals? Yelling each other’s’ names? Beautiful music? Lovely voice acting? A very intriguing story so far? I feel like this podcast was made for me, and I love it.

The Best Horror Audio Drama
An incredible mix of a brilliant concept, wonderful execution, and extremely talented sound design. The creator delivers an experience that will pull you into the dark and foreboding world of Malevolent, making it easy to lose yourself in this wonderful story.
Excellently acted with excellent sound design. Amazing for such a small project.
you need to check out this show. seriously! stellar design, writing, and acting work together to create such a perfectly crafted atmosphere. suspenseful, chilling, and haunting in all the wonderfully right ways, malevolent grabs you, pulls you in, and keeps you.
Malevolent is a cosmic horror story with plenty of mysterious twists and turns as the stakes deepen. It is an overall excellent show with strong writing, engaging descriptions, an immersive atmosphere, and interesting characters. Patreon backers receive early access to shorter episodes (compiled later into publicly available content), and can even vote on various decisions at the end of each episode. These choices are woven seamlessly into the overarching story, and the strong writing brings it all together in a way consistent with the characters and direction of the story. The concept, including the use of a sightless character, works really well in this format and serves to create a rich world that I have enjoyed exploring. I started listening to the free content, binged that, and started backing on Patreon because I wanted to hear more. A really delightful and terrifying show.
